What We Do

The Wandsworth, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Forum was set up in 2005, with the support of GALOP (Gay London Police Monitoring Group) to improve the lives of LGBT people living, working and studying in Wandsworth.

The forum has an elected committee that is voted in at the annual general meeting. All committee members must self define as LGBT. The committee are all volunteers who contribute as much time as possible to the development and visibility of LGBT in Wandsworth.

We welcome all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, who live, work, study or socialise within the Wandsworth borough.

Our aims are:

  • To provide a platform for our members, to raise awareness and campaign on issues relevant to the Wandsworth LGBT community.
  • To build partnerships to challenge homophobia and discrimination across the borough.
  • To ensure that statutory agencies include LGBT communities in consultations on service provision.
  • To increase awareness of people working in local statutory agencies of the needs and interests of the LGBT community.

We are very proactive in ensuring that we campaign on LGBT issues and encourage other sectors to do so. Over the last two years we have supported local organisations and project initiatives (Gendered Intelligence and Connexions LGBT Youth Club), organised many community events (such as LGBT History Month and IDAHO day) and have played a key role in being a critical friend to our local services.

We have developed close working links with key services across the borough including Wandsworth Borough Council, the Borough MPs, NHS Wandsworth, the Metropolitan Police (Wandsworth Division) and local voluntary sector organisations. Representatives from these services often attend out meetings and contribute to the development of the LGBT voice in Wandsworth.

We like to think of ourselves as a signpost that can point you towards the services that you need. If we can’t help you directly we will always try to find you someone who can.

You can find out more on our meetings and events by looking on the site. Otherwise please do get in contact with us. We would love to hear form you.
